This full-time position will work alongside Varyer’s team and its partners to play an important role from concept through execution within a wide range of projects.

As a Digital Strategist, you’ll be a key contributor in defining the future of digital products and services both internally and for a variety of clients. You enjoy intricate challenges and approach them with a positive attitude and the ability to make the complicated simple. You have a passion for data and systems, and enjoy digging deep into the details to discover insights and opportunities that add value to our work. You understand our clients’ brands almost as well (if not better) than they do, and use audience research and insights to advocate for the user while meeting business goals.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about exploring and defining strategic opportunities while also having a collaborative spirit with a flexible mindset, lending itself to tackling a nuanced variety of challenges.

We’re looking for someone with great taste who is good-humored, unpretentious, unafraid to share ideas, and eager to pitch in. This individual holds their work to the highest standard and is passionate about the evolution of their practice. The role reports to Varyer’s principals, offers competitive health and dental benefits, 401K, and is based in Chicago (though temporary remote work is on the table).

You’ll work as part of a small and talented team, jumping lockstep into our momentum with enthusiasm and curiosity. We work together in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and we’re remote on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to projects from concept to completion injecting rigorous strategic thinking each step of the way
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative research to generate meaningful and intuitive insights that drive strategy and creative concepts
  • Identify insights by analyzing client input, consumer research and competitor data to drive the experience strategy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop end-to-end solutions for clients by bringing a hybrid lens of analytical thinking and creative strategy to develop audience insights, inform creative campaign concepting, and define the measurement and testing optimization approach, as well as the reporting strategy
  • Be an ambassador for using data to inform action and power consumer experiences
  • Participate in creative brainstorms with our internal team
  • Collaborate with the internal team to establish goals and implement strategies for executing, measuring progress, and communicating results against these goals.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of brand and digital strategy experience which includes leading the development of brand strategy and digital marketing projects for large and small brands across a variety of industries

  • Experience with all phases across the strategic planning and design process, from discovery and research, into briefing, design, and testing

  • A broad set of strategic skills and experiences focusing on brand and digital strategy, digital marketing, research, and content planning, with a foundational understanding of user experience and interaction design, digital analytics, and digital transformation

  • Ability to present ideas and strategy to internal teams and outside partners

  • Proactive, organized, detailed, hands-on, and a quick problem solver

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, written, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence change at all organizational levels

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

  • Excitement to help build unique physical and digital expressions of strategy combining editorial, design, and honestly whatever else comes along

  • Fluency in (or very quick to learn) Keynote, Google Drive, Content Management Systems, Dropbox, Basecamp, etc.

  • Experience connecting big picture planning to on-the-ground tactics and deliverables

  • Self-directed toward excellent work outcomes and doesn’t take constructive criticism personally; someone who proactively looks for creative solutions and brings people in to help make them better; finds joy and inspiration in daily life and builds it into their work

  • Compassion, empathy, tolerance and inclusiveness are required traits
